Speaker 2:Welcome to the Getting to Clarity podcast, the place where busy leaders discover how to create more success in their leadership journey with less sacrifice in their life. Here's your host, debbie Peterson, of Getting to Clarity.
Speaker 1:So what if the biggest block between you and your next step isn't your calendar, your to-do list or even lack of time? What if it's a belief that you've been carrying that no longer fits a story that just isn't true anymore? Here's why this matters. If you've ever found yourself overthinking a decision, second-guessing your abilities or staying stuck even when you know what to do next, procrastinating, you're not alone. Clarity isn't about having all the answers. It's about cleaning out the mental noise, the junk that clouds your judgment and it slows your momentum. And more often than not, that noise starts with your very own beliefs. What we tell ourselves becomes the lens through which we see everything else. If the lens is smudged, even the clearest opportunity is going to look blurry, especially if you are new to leadership. There are demands in your leadership, and mindset can be the difference between spinning your wheels and stepping forward with the confidence that I know that you have inside of you. So let's walk through five common beliefs that quietly sabotage clarity, and what it is that you can do instead, how you can shift them into something that is far more helpful for you. So here's what you need to know your beliefs drive your behavior. If you believe you have to have it all figured out before you act, then you're going to hesitate. You are literally giving your brain instruction what to do. If you believe you're not ready, then you're going to stay in place. Clarity is about shifting the internal conversation so you can take action with purpose. So five beliefs that block clarity and what to do instead. Let's cover these. One I need to be perfect before I can begin, or it needs to be perfect before I can begin. Perfection is the enemy of momentum. Clarity doesn't come from thinking harder. It comes from doing, taking action. So shift it. Replace perfection with progress. Ask yourself what is one small move that I can make today? And then do it. That is what is going to get you going.
Speaker 1:Number two everyone has it more together than I do. I'm the only one who doesn't have it figured out. Phooey Comparison breeds confusion. Leadership isn't a competition, it's a commitment. So shift it. Stay in your lane, run your own race right. Reconnect with your values and your vision. Use your clarity compass to realign when you feel off track. What about I have to do it all by myself? That's number three.
Speaker 1:This belief often wears the mask of independence, but underneath is overwhelm. So you want to shift it by telling yourself that you know clarity grows when you collaborate with other people. So ask yourself who can help me move this forward Right? Number four if I say no, I'm going to miss out. So then you're saying yes to everything, this fear of missing out, or FOMO. It creates clutter on your calendar and in your mind. So you want to shift it. You want to trade your FOMO for focus. Say yes to only what aligns with what is important to you. Number five I'm not ready yet. I'm not ready yet.
Speaker 1:Readiness is rarely a feeling, it's a decision. So shift it. You don't need more confidence, you need more clarity. Decide than do so. What could this look like for you?
Speaker 1:Well, maybe you're someone who has just stepped into a new leadership role. You know you have the experience, You've earned the trust of your team. You maybe even have a solid plan in place, but deep down, you're hesitating. You're telling yourself you're not quite ready. Maybe you keep tweaking the plan, waiting for the perfect time to take action. Maybe you're second guessing your decisions that you would have made easily. You know a year ago or six months ago that hesitation. It might not be about readiness at all. It might be about fear or a belief that crept in somewhere along the way that says you have to feel 100% confident before you move. I don't think that exists. I know it doesn't in my world. But confidence doesn't come first. Clarity does. Clarity gives you confidence. It may not give you the whole plan, but it'll give you direction so that you can move. It may not give you the whole plan, but it'll give you direction so that you can move. So once you name what matters most you know that might be your values, your vision, your direction you're going to stop asking am I ready? And you're going to start choosing in favor of your next move so that you can take it intentionally. That's what clarity does for you, and it starts the moment you decide to see things differently. So your mindset makeover starts right here.
Speaker 1:If you want to shift from stuck to action, steady action start with your beliefs. Try this One. Write down one belief that's been keeping you in place, and you know what it is. You may not acknowledge it consciously, but you know what it is. Ask yourself where did this come from? See if you can see what the root cause of it is, and then ask yourself is it still serving me. If the answer is no, then change it to another belief. Number three choose a more empowering thought to replace it. That's okay, you get to do that. Number four check in. Does this belief align with who you are and where you're going? Hmm, your next clear move Take 10 minutes in the next 48 hours, next two days, and examine one belief that might be blocking your clarity.
Speaker 1:It doesn't take long, but it does take you making the decision to take that action intentionally. And if you want help applying clarity to your specific situation, I'm here.
